Step 1. Get your VIN

What is a VIN?

A Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is a unique 17-digit code that is assigned to each individual vehicle. It acts as the vehicle’s fingerprint, as no two vehicles will have the same VIN. The VIN can be used to identify important information about your car such as its manufacturer, year of production, model and even where it was manufactured.

Where can I find my VIN?

Your vehicle identification number (VIN) can be found on the driver’s side dashboard, near where the windshield meets the hood of your car. It can also be found on the compliance plate in the engine bay, on one of the door posts (where the door latches when it is closed or in a variety of documents related to your vehicle, including its registration and insurance policy.

If you still cannot locate your VIN, contact your local dealership for assistance. They should be able to help you locate the exact location of your VIN.

Step 1: Find your Renault pre-code

Option 1: Press 1 and 6 buttons simultaneously

Follow these steps to find your Renault pre-code:

  1. Turn on your radio.
  2. Hold buttons 1 and 6 together, then release. Your pre-code will appear on the screen.

It is important to note that the code will always be a letter followed by three numbers. For example, if the code appears as "5241," it is actually "S241."

Note: if your radio is already locked, this method will not work. You'll need to use Option 2.

Option 2: Remove the radio and read the serial number off the label

If option 1 didn't work, you can also find your Renault pre-code on the label on the side of the stereo. Follow the steps below to do this:

  1. Inject your radio removal tools (or any long, thin objects) into the holes on the radio.
  2. Apply pressure out the tools in an outwards direction. This will help you extract the radio without the tools sliding out of the holes.
  3. Pull the tools and the radio out of the dashboard.
  4. Find the label on the side of the radio.
  5. Your pre-code is located in a box called "Security"
